The Celtic manager has confirmed he will be using Hatem Elhamed as a right-back for the club this season after the player was confirmed as a Celtic player on Wednesday afternoon.
The defender played most of his games last season for Hapoel Be’er Sheva as a centre back which confused some of the Celtic fans when he was announced as a right-back signing by the club.
Lennon is confident Hatem will be playing in the right-back position but he can also play centre back. The player will be a good utility man going forward to plug a gap in the defence.
“He started his career as a right-back and obviously at times he has played at centre-half. I watched him in the last four or five games of last season, he was playing at right-back. He can play both positions very well.” the Irishman told BBC Sportsound.
Celtic now have Hatem and Anthony Ralson as their right-back choices. Given Lennon hasn’t used Ralston at all in his first three competitive games, it’s safe to say the club are looking for another right-back for competition.
Hatem is not eligible for this round of the Champions League qualifiers but could make a competitive debut on Celtic’s flag day opener against St Johnstone.
