Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has backed Ange Postecoglou to deliver a treble this season after his side defeated Rangers 2-1 in the final of the Viaplay Cup.
A brace from Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi was enough for the Hoops to retain the trophy for yet another season.
Lennon is the only man in the history of the club to have won a treble as both a player and manager and has backed Postecoglou to deliver even more success for Celtic this season as he reckons that there will be a ‘psychological lift’ from getting the Leagee Cup win over the line.
The Hoops are currently nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and are only three victories away from also picking up the Scottish Cup as they next face Hearts in the quarter-final in less than two weeks time.
“Winning the cup is a one-off day. Winning it against Rangers adds a huge psychological lift to the whole club,” said Lennon as quoted by the [Daily Record].
“This result is huge when it comes to the rest of the season. Celtic have won, there’s no question they’re on track to win the treble.”
Postecoglou’s focus will turn now to the away match at St Mirren who remain the only side to have beaten Celtic domestically this season.
The players will return to training on Tuesday as the gaffer asks them to go again in what could be described as another chapter in the season until we reach the split where he could look to give some players more minutes on the park.
