Negative Celtic Headline Comes Back to Haunt Former Parkhead Star

CELTIC FANS have to put up with a lot in the media sometimes but none so more than when some of our own who want to stick the boot in for absolutely no reason.

There’s a climate of ex-Celts in the media who want to look at the negative. There’s a difference between talking about obvious negatives going on and seeking them out and a lot of them do the latter.

Charlie Nicholas, Andy Walker, Kris Commons and the man who we’ll be shining a big light on today – Davie Provan.

Rarely do we see kudos being handed out by Provan to anyone at Celtic. Billed as ‘Frank and Fearless’ by his employers – the Sky Sports broadcasters earns his wage by trying to be controversial.

We constantly highlight his tirades and on the odd occasion have agreed with him but if there’s one headline that should highlight what we’re dealing with here, it’s the one below!

This headline was penned when the defender looked to be on his way out of Celtic under Ronny Deila and Davie laughing off the prospect of Celtic getting £10million for their man.

He may have only been playing in Scotland but any Celtic fan who watched this lad week in, week out knew exactly the type of player he could become. In the end, the headline was already rubbished when Celtic got £12m for their man who left for Southampton.

As we sit here today, with Virgil now a £75m asset and the most expensive defender in the world we look at the absurdity of Provan’s comment and his willingness to seek out a negative within a very big positive.

Virgil is now a European Cup winner but it was only five years ago Provan was laughing at him being worth £10million instead of praising the bhoy to the hills and actually enjoying Celtic having a player of this calibre.
