For the last couple of weeks, Neil Lennon’s new younger stars have been playing some games for the reserves and getting up to speed with the developmental side of things.
However, one man who hasn’t played a game for the reserves and has continually trained with the first teams is Jeremie Frimpong. The 18-year-old signed from Manchester City on a four-year deal during deadline day in August and he looks to have already impressed Neil Lennon.
Jeremie has been part of most first team squad training sessions while the others have drifted in and out. While Celtic were playing in the Reserve Cup on Tuesday afternoon with Jonathan Afolabi, Liam Burt and Lee O’Connor playing – the right back was a notable absentee along with Luca Connell who was also training with the first team.
It’s not uncommon for a manager to call up young players to get a taste of first team training on occasion but Jeremie could be pushing for a start. The only problem is he is a right-back and we now already have two competent options in that position. If Moritz Bauer sits the Partick Thistle game out through injury – the dutchman might make the bench.
Luca Connell also skipping the reserve game for first team training is interesting.
