“My Honest Answer…” – Brendan Rodgers in the Dark Over Pre-Play-Off Signings

Brendan Rodgers admits he is unsure whether Celtic will make any major signings before their crucial Champions League Play-Off Round later this month.

The Hoops will discover their opponent next week, with Kairat currently holding a 1-0 first-leg lead over Slovan Bratislava. If the Kazakh side progress, it would mean a gruelling 7,000-mile round trip and a five-hour time difference, all in the middle of a run that includes three matches in six days, capped by the first Glasgow derby of the season.

When asked if he expected new arrivals before the tie, Rodgers was honest in his response.

“I really don’t know. That’s my honest answer,” he said to TCW. “We just have to keep working to look to get the players in and in the meantime work with the players that are here to make them the best that they can be.”

Celtic have made seven summer signings so far, but the manager has been vocal about the need for further reinforcements, particularly in attacking areas. With the clock ticking towards the play-offs and the end of the transfer window, supporters will be hoping for movement in the coming weeks to boost the squad ahead of a demanding schedule.

The gaffer has already told fans that there are no imminent signings, but still seems confident that he can get a few bodies in before the window slams shut in under a month’s time.

Ideally, Celtic would have their signings in the door by now, but for one reason or another, that’s not the case.
