Former Celtic invincible star Moussa Dembele looks set to leave Lyon for a bargain basement price of around £3m, according to reports. [Football Scotland]
The dembelition expert moved to Lyon from Celtic in what was a record breaking transfer fee of £19.8m for the Hoops. The player has done well in France but has ran down his contract to the point he’s available to sign a pre-contract with any club he likes.
With the clock ticking down to the transfer deadline, EPL strugglers Southampton have lodged a £3m bid for the Frenchman which has reportedly been accepted.
You have to imagine his wages will cost Southampton a fair amount, but the striker’s fee is a steal by any measure.
Celtic will miss out on any sort of transfer windfall due to the low fee, but a source has told CeltsAreHere the club were not banking on anything coming in for Moussa as the seasons wore on.
Celtic fans remember Moussa fondly for his time at the club. His exit wasn’t on the best of terms with the player taking to social media to announce his displeasure at the manager. At the time, Moussa warned Celtic fans not to trust Brendan Rodgers and it would transpire the manager would leave the club for Leicester before the season was out.
He returned to Celtic Park at the end of that season and walked around the pitch with the players during title celebrations.
If he is getting a move to England, we wish him all the best.
