Moronic – Hartson Slams Ibrox Fans for Disgusting Chant

JOHN HARTSON has used his platform in the Evening Times to slam the Ibrox fans who participated in a disgusting song about Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

The chant was very audible and was being sung by a large number of people inside Ibrox stadium.

There is also footage online of the Ibrox fans chanting the disgusting song – revelling in Leigh’s mental health issues when it’s clear the people singing it have their own issues in life.

The toxic nature of some of these fans means this will never stop but Hartson believes we shouldn’t become numb to it and it should be called out when heard.

“I don’t think you’ll ever be rid of that moronic element,” Hartson told the ET.

“But on Saturday I heard the singing directed towards Leigh Griffiths at Ibrox and you do just wonder what goes through people’s heads at times.

“It is too simplistic to say that Griff will want to come back and shut them up with his performances because right now I think he has bigger things on his mind. But no-one needs that level of agitation and disrespect.

“It is a reminder that there is still so much work to be done when it comes to educating people and it is depressing in this day and age that it is still acceptable to poke fun at someone who has been dealing with pretty serious issues.”

Leigh has taken the brave step of admitting he needs help to deal with problems off the field. In this day and age, the amount of people suffering from these problems means we all know someone or are the person in Leigh’s shoes.

While the striker will ignore these chants and abuse he gets online on a daily basis, even from some Ibrox endorsed fan groups – it’s all just a bit pathetic.
