Minutes Applause Set For Viaplay Cup Final

It has been confirmed that there shall be a minute’s applause held at Hampden prior to kick-off in the Viaplay Cup final between Celtic and Rangers to mark the passing of Hibs chairman Ron Gordon.

Gordon wrote an open letter to fans only last month to inform them that he was undergoing treatment for cancer and it was sadly announced last night that he had lost his battle at the age of 68.

The American businessman appears to have been a very well-respected figure in the game in Scotland as clubs from across the country united to pay their respects to the former Hibs majority shareholder on social media.

In the statement released by the SPFL they mention the positive impact which he made on Scottish football and how he helped develop the league in just the short space of time he was involved in the game as he only took over at Hibs in in the summer of 2019.

Although majority of the fans going along to the game on Sunday will not have had any personal dealings with the former Hibs chairman, cancer effects everyone’s lives and many at the game will have lost a loved one to the horrible disease at some point.
