Celtic winger Mikey Johnston has been brought back into the fray this season by manager Brendan Rodgers. The Irish internationalist came off the bench at Easter Road last month after not playing for the Hoops for a number of years.
Rodgers has looked to give his fellow countryman another chance at Parkhead because he believes he is an extremely talented player. Despite this, Johnston aims to play at the top level in Europe. He said (Football Scotland): “It’s not happened yet. Hopefully it does. A big dream of mine would have been to play in the Champions League for Celtic. It’s sort of what I wanted to do as a boy so hopefully it happens but if it doesn’t it’s not the end of the world.”

The 24-year-old is in the Celts’ European squad. There is a chance he could play in the Champions League, although he thinks he has until January to make a notable impression. He said: “I have until January to do that (get into the team) and I will try and give it everything to do that but we just have to see what happens. I’ve not spoken to the manager much in the last sort of month, we’ve had chats here and there. It’s tough decisions for the manager to make and ultimately it’s up to me.”
Johnston has impressed Rodgers in training and we are coming into a busy part of the season. Because of this, the gaffer will need to utilise his whole squad. Johnston may well get opportunities here and there, but one imagines they will remain limited.
