Celtic’s Mikey Johnston is determined to show that he’s good enough for Celtic following his impressive performances for the Republic of Ireland, a marked high point in what’s been a challenging season marred by injury.

Having spent a successful stint last season on loan at Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal, the 24-year-old Celtic winger found his return to Parkhead complicated by injury woes, missing pre-season and the start of Celtic’s league campaign.
During Johnston’s absence, Celtic fortified their flanks with significant investments. Celtic signed Hyunjun Yang Luis Palma Both have shown their worth early in the season, with Marco Tilio, who was also signed in the summer, yet to make an appearance for the Hoops.
With competition rife, including from experienced James Forrest along with Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada, Johnston is well aware of the battle he faces for a regular starting berth. However, he remains undeterred and resolute in his ambition.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Johnston said: “I am just working my way behind the scenes to try and get my opportunity, the manager has got tough decisions to make.
“He’s got wingers he’s brought in for a few million and it’s up to me to get into the team. I know what I have to do.
“Obviously he’s got decisions to make, but ultimately, it’s up to me.
“I think it’s always tough when you miss pre-season, but I’ve definitely done well in training and I know I’m good enough to play, I just need the opportunity.”
