Mikel Arteta Directly Addresses Potential Kieran Tierney Celtic Return

Kieran Tierney’s long-term future is up in the air in the midst of the January transfer window.

The left-back isn’t renewing his contract at Arenal, which expires at the end of the season, and an emotional return to Celtic has widely been reported.

The Hoops are said to be looking to sign the defender on a pre-contract agreement, which would see him move back to Glasgow in the summer, ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Bringing Tierney back on loan this month until the end of the season has been suggested, although he is still involved at Arsenal.

Indeed, boss Mikel Arteta was asked directly about a potential return to Celtic for the 27-year-old at a recent press conference: “There is absolutely no news,” he said (Arsenal on YouTube).

“Kieran is our player.”

A definitive stance from the Spaniard, while Tierney remains contracted to the Gunners, he has played just 69 minutes of football this season.

He is fit, though, and in contention for most matches, but Arteta doesn’t consider him a real first-choice option.

That wouldn’t be the case at Celtic, where the left-back would come in and be a key player from the off.

If a move materialised, Tierney’s return to the Bhoys would perhaps be one of the most sensational Scottish transfers in recent times.
