José Carlos Ferreira Júnior was given a six-match ban after kicking an opponent in the back twice, but it is alleged he breached his suspension. He resumed his suspension in the Danish sides game against PSV on Tuesday night, where his side suffered a 3-0 defeat.
José Carlos Ferreira Júnior was handed out this ban while on loan in the Brazilian league, but since it was issued by FIFA it would carry over to the European leagues, ultimately meaning both the club and UEFA are at fault.
If UEFA does decide to take disciplinary action, the rules declare that if Celtic challenge the player in question is being fielded the match could be forfeited, resulting in Celtic inheriting a 3-0 win – this would put Celtic through. However, I don’t believe such action will be taken, if any, but it will be interesting to watch this unfold over the next few days.
Celtic fans are familiar with ineligible players being fielded, with it happening twice already since 2011, both Sion and Legia Warsaw being found guilty of breaching the rules.
