Midfielder Warned Ahead Of Parkhead Move

Incoming Celtic signing Liam Shaw has been warned ahead of his move to Parkhead by former Sheffield Wednesday and England international Carlton Palmer.

As quoted by the Daily Record speaking to the Football FanCast podcast, Palmer stated that he believes Shaw should be looking for a loan move already, before even stepping through the gates of the training ground of Lennoxtown due to the quality of midfield players the club already possesses.

“Liam is going to struggle going to Celtic that age to play.

“He’ll probably end up going there and going out on loan, I’m assuming, I don’t know.

“If I was Liam, I’d be wanting to get out on loan somewhere where it’s guaranteed that he’s going to play because you can do that.

“I’ve done it before where I’ve taken a player when I was manager at Stockport and the manager’s come to me and said, ‘right, listen, I’ll let the player come, but he’s got to play.”

“It’s a bit like David Beckham when he went to Preston, that’s how they develop. They’ve got to play.”

This season, the 20-year old became a first-team regular for his boyhood side earlier in the season but since announcing his move to the Hoops he has found himself on the bench, coming on in the final few minutes of games mostly.

Shaw can play in both central midfield and centre back, so he does come with the added extra of being a versatile player.

Of course, it will be down to whoever the next manager is to decide on whether they want Shaw to stay at the club or not. It will be better to give him pre-season to prove that and make that choice a few months down the line.
