Michael Stewart has weighed in on whether Brendan Rodgers will sign a new deal beyond his current one, which expires at the end of next season, with Stewart suggesting that Rodgers may agree to a one-year rolling contract before his existing deal ends.
With links to a potential move to replace former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, Brendan Rodgers dismissed the speculation after securing Celtic’s 55th league title at the weekend — despite some in the media being eager to push the idea that he will leave at the end of the season.
However, Stewart believes that whether Rodgers stays beyond the end of next season depends on two factors: whether any top jobs become available next summer, and whether Celtic would be willing to offer a rolling contract instead of a potential two- or three-year deal.

He said: (Premier Sports), “I was thinking about this the other week, about this whole dynamic with Brendan, going into the last year of his contract. The difference with a manager and a player is you come towards the end of a contract with a manager, it’s all about timing and what’s available. If he’s coming out of contract but there’s nothing available, is he just going to walk away from Celtic?
“I don’t think he would. So I actually think, completely dependent on what else would be available at that specific time, which is very unusual for management, there’s a good chance that he will perhaps stay on at Celtic. Maybe sign like a rolling contract and at that point, you know, be a bit more open and upfront with the club and say, look, I’m going to be staying here.
“I love it, but on the proviso that if, for example, a Tottenham or one of these top Premier League clubs come in, everybody’s aware that I would be looking to go or I might look to go abroad. It becomes very difficult to plan the time that you would leave. He signed a fixed-term contract of three years, but who knows what’s available next summer?“

Rodgers has undoubtedly added to his Celtic legacy already, and this summer’s recruitment may impact his decision to stay longer term — potentially backing him further for the Champions League and reaping the rewards, as it’s clear he’s doing as much as he can in charge of Celtic.
Marquee signings would be a boost for Rodgers, as Celtic already have a strong squad. Improving certain areas of the starting XI, such as a centre-back, central midfielder, and striker, would take the team up a gear.
