Michael Stewart Makes Surprise Inclusion to His Strongest Celtic XI

Michael Stewart would put Luke McCowan in his strongest Celtic starting lineup.

It comes after the midfielder returned to the team for Sunday’s match against St. Mirren, making a decent impact in the routine 3-0 victory.

Goals came from Nicolas Kuhn and Auston Trusty as the Bhoys cantered to a relatively comfortable three points.

The likes of Kuhn and Engels stood out, although McCowan brought a typical energy in the middle of the park, constantly involved in the action: he sent a lovely ball in behind the Buddies’ backline for Daizen Maeda to latch on to and set up the opener.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll get the nod for tomorrow evening’s game against Dundee United, although Stewart would have him in the team all day: “The middle of the park is the interesting one for me,” he said (Premier Sports).

“If I’m picking my team, strongest, I’d have Luke McCowan in it.

“I really like him. He’s got a bit of everything.

“He has great energy, he picks up good positions, he sees a pass, he’s got an eye for a goal.

“I’d like to think he’d get a run of games.”

Barring last Thursday’s Glasgow derby, when every Celtic player was poor, McCowan has yet to really put a foot wrong in green and white.

He’s continually done himself proud with his performances, and despite not starting every week, he, more often than not, has a positive impact on games.

At just £1m, the ex-Dundee man was one of the Hoops’ bargains of the summer and will relish the opportunity to go up against his old rivals at Parkhead tomorrow evening.
