Brendan Rodgers hasn’t been shy in letting the Celtic fans know he wants to bring in some more players before the window shuts, and admitted this weekend that he wants to expedite the process to boost his injured squad ahead of crunch tie with Astana.
Celtic is still able to register a wildcard option before the tie on Wednesday, and the club is working round the clock to try and get just one deal over the line in time.
The deal that everyone wants to know about is the Patrick Roberts transfer. The will he/won’t he saga of the summer looks to come to a head this week, and it looks increasingly likely Celtic is the Englishman’s next destination.
A loan deal and permanent deal have both been discussed and if the two parties can agree quickly don’t be surprised to see Roberts back as early as tomorrow afternoon.
However, if Peter Lawwell thinks the deal is a long way from completion before Wednesday, then it’s very likely that he will accelerate other deals currently ongoing.
Celtic are now looking for a short term striker to help carry the load with Dembele and Griffiths both finding fitness hard to come by.
It was also reported in the press that Celtic are chasing defender Rivaldo Coetzee, the 20-year-old is trying to push a deal through after finding out about Celtic’s interest.
Between off the pitch and on the pitch matters between now and Wednesday it’s an understatement to say the moves begin made now will have a massive effect on the season ahead. Failure to make the Champions League is unthinkable. However, Rodgers is ready to go with the side he has, injuries and all if a deal does not materialise.
