Media Focus: Rodgers On Dembele, Incoming Transfers and Suduva Starting XI

BRENDAN RODGERS has given Celtic fans a major update on Moussa Dembele’s situation and hasn’t ruled out the striker playing in Thursday night’s game against Suduva just yet.

The Celtic manager spoke to the press today ahead of the Europa League qualifier and admitted that it’s always going to be hard to keep players at Celtic beyond a certain period.

However, the manager did point out that should players leave it’s not always to a ‘bigger club’ but a better financial situation.

The Irishman confirmed there is one club in particular very keen on bringing Moussa in before Friday’s deadline but stopped short of naming that club.

Rodgers also confirmed he had spoken to Dembele about the interest but kept anything that was said in the meeting between himself and the striker.

Here are some snippets from Rodgers press conference this afternoon on the subject of Moussa leaving:

“A lot going on with Moussa at the moment. Moussa and his representatives were at the club”

“Moussa isn’t a player we want to lose, he’s a phenomenal talent but he wasn’t going to be here forever”

Asked if the club had anyone lined up for a potential departure and the chances of him playing on Thursday night, Rodgers replied:

“It has to work both ways, we don’t want to be losing a top class player without having a replacement.

“He’s available for the game, I’ll speak to him later on, I have to ensure that everyone who plays are fully committed to playing in the game.

“Players come for the reasons that they do, which is to play for a big club to develop their talents with the possibility of moving on – not to a bigger club or a better club but to a financially better situation and different level of league competition.”

On potential incoming transfers, Rodgers was vague but still admitted Celtic are looking to improve the squad before the deadline.

“We’re still looking for players that can come in and freshen up the squad but also players that can come in and fit into what we’re doing.”
