McInnes Can’t Believe Celtic Passed Up Deadline Day Deal

Former Aberdeen boss Derek McInness couldn’t believe neither Celtic or their Glasgow rivals tried to snap up Ali McCann on deadline day.

The midfielder helped St Johnstone to a famous double last season and was a stand out for the saints.

There had been calls for Celtic to make a move for Ali in recent weeks but nothing came of it. Instead – the player moved to Preston for just over £1m.

Celtic could have afforded to bring the player in under those terms but chose not to.

McInnes can’t believe Preston have got such a steal.

“Ange Postecoglou has been given the scope to bring in a full team’s worth of players at Celtic, a rebuild that was sorely needed after last season’s struggles.” The former dons boss told RecordSport.

“I am just surprised and disappointed that neither player has stayed in the Scottish league.

“McCann would have been an easy one for Celtic or Rangers to take and such a hard one for Callum to replace.”

Celtic brought in a lot of players but a couple of injuries and the midfield could become a problem area for the team.

Passing up on McCann isn’t a major deal but when there’s talent in Scottish football who could do us a turn – it’s certainly worth exploring.

Celtic head into the next run of fixtures with the most certainty they’ve had in quite some time. The transfer window is closed and Ange knows exactly what he’s dealing with.
