McGregor Highlights How Celtic Learned from Dortmund Humbling

Celtic captain Callum McGregor discussed Celtic’s Champions League campaign to date ahead of tomorrow night’s game against Young Boys at Celtic Park.

With Celtic on the verge of a place in the Champions League knockout playoffs, a win will likely seal a spot in the next round, placing them in the top 24 of the 36-team league table.

The Hoops have had more ups than downs so far this season in Europe, with convincing wins against Slovan Bratislava and RB Leipzig at Celtic Park, as well as a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Serie A side Atalanta. The Bhoys have worked incredibly hard to get to this position.

However, a 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in October was a tough one to take, and bouncing back since has shown the mentality under Brendan Rodgers. The team has only lost one game across all competitions.

A tough schedule hasn’t helped the Hoops over the last month, with 9 games played since December 22nd. A lack of a winter break has meant Celtic’s rhythm has been slightly affected. However, having increased their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 13 points over the last month and securing a place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup at the weekend, Celtic look ready to send a message across Europe against Young Boys.

With McGregor opening the scoring against Kilmarnock on Saturday at Paradise, the Scottish midfielder revealed how he believes there has been an evolution this season in Europe.

He told Celtsarehere: “We’ve grown and moved up levels throughout the campaign. The group has made great strides since the first away game, and now we’re ready for a big finish.”

After the Dortmund game, Celtic supporters wouldn’t be blamed for thinking it would be yet another disappointing European campaign, where they were eliminated before the last matchday of the league phase.

However, it’s the opposite, with Celtic hopeful of sealing a place in the next round with a win against the Swiss champions. The Hoops have shown this isn’t just any other Champions League campaign. Instead, McGregor looks set to lead Celtic to history tomorrow night at Celtic Park in front of a sold-out crowd.
