McAvennie Believes Celtic Should Dump Neil Lennon Signing

When everyone is fit, Celtic have great strength in the midfield. Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley, and Reo Hatate are all superb options, and that is without mentioning the likes of Paulo Bernardo and Tomoki Iwata.

Odin Holm joined from Valerenga in his homeland over the summer, but another player whom manager Brendan Rodgers has utilised the services of a fair few times this season is David Turnbull.

Indeed, the Scotland internationalist started on Flag Day against Ross County and bagged a brace in the 4-2 win. He started the season well but has since faded amid the emergence of Bernardo and Hatate’s return to fitness.

The 24-year-old is now into his fourth year at the club and having made 135 appearances in Hoops, it is fair to say Turnbull remains a respected member of the Parkhead dressing room. Despite this, his contract at the club expires at the end of the current campaign.

Pundit and former Celt Frank McAvennie, however, doesn’t think it should be renewed. He believes Celtic should cut their losses on Turnbull due to their depth in the engine room: “I would let Turnbull go because there’s loads of players in midfield coming through”, he said (Football Insider). “I think they’re better options than Turnbull. He’s done alright, he’s a good player”
