Matt O’Riley’s Huge Celtic Wage Increase

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley enjoyed a memorable weekend. On Saturday morning, it was announced the Danish midfielder had signed a new contract with the club then hours later, he bagged a dramatic late winner at Fir Park.

O’Riley’s new deal will see him stay at the club until at least the summer of 2027, and it involved a ‘huge’ pay increase, according to SunSport. They say that manager Brendan Rodgers was ‘keen’ for the club to recognise the contributions of the player.

With his new deal, it is reported that O’Riley is now among the Scottish champions’ top earners, and in the same bracket as players such as Kyogo and Callum McGregor. On the pitch this season so far, his importance is of the same level as those men.

In seven Scottish Premiership appearances in 2023/24, the 22-year-old has scored five times and assisted twice, averaging a goal contribution every 86 minutes. His record speaks for itself, and his progress in terms of importance to the team and level in such a short period of time under Rodgers is remarkable.
