Matt O’Riley was the hero for Celtic on Saturday as they ran out 2-1 winners at Fir Park following an abundance of late drama. The Danish midfielder scored in the dying embers to secure victory for his side, moments after Blair Spittal equalised for the hosts.
The travelling support behind the goal in which O’Riley netted went delirious, and the 22-year-old has spoken through his memorable strike. He said (Glasgow Times): “There wasn’t too much going through my head from what I can remember, trying to think back on it now. My mind was pretty clear and I knew what I had to do in that moment, it was just about executing it, and I did.”

It was a colossal moment, and on the eye, O’Riley made the goal look ever so simple. Ghosting in at the back post unmarked, he couldn’t really miss, but it still took some technique to catch the ball the way he did on the volley.
Evidently, it didn’t seem that much went through the midfielder’s mind when he conjured up arguably the biggest goal of his Hoops career thus far, but that is a testament to the composed individual that he is. Under Brendan Rodgers, O’Riley’s game has reached a new level, and with a recent new contract, life couldn’t get any better for Celtic’s number 33.
