Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley engaged with fans in an X, formally Twitter, Q&A session on Saturday, facilitated by Celtic’s social media team, where he shared insights into his personal and professional life.

Amidst ongoing transfer interest from clubs both in the UK and abroad, O’Riley remains a key figure at Celtic, with manager Brendan Rodgers firmly stating that the club has no intention of selling him this January.
When asked about the noticeable improvement in his goal-scoring this season, O’Riley attributed it to a change in his mental approach. “I’d say it’s been mainly an off the pitch thing – The mental side of things. I’m a lot calmer on the pitch and putting less pressure on myself,” he explained. This mental shift has evidently paid dividends, as O’Riley has become the second top scorer in the league this season, with an impressive tally of ten goals and seven assists.
Regarding his personal tastes, O’Riley revealed his current favourite music genre is Spanish reggaeton. This revelation comes amidst links to a potential move to Spain.
Reflecting on his favourite moment with Celtic, O’Riley fondly recalled his first derby game against Rangers. Having moved to Celtic in January 2021, he started in a February night derby, which Celtic won 3-0. “The 3-0 night game against Rangers – it was only my second home game and it was incredible!” he recounted.
O’Riley’s interaction with fans provides a glimpse into the mindset and personality of a player who has become integral to Celtic’s midfield. His focus on mental well-being, alongside his skills on the pitch, underscores the holistic approach top athletes often need to succeed.
As Celtic continues its campaign, O’Riley’s contributions on the pitch will remain crucial to the team’s aspirations for success.
