His remarkable start to the season has seen him net four goals and provide two assists in just six games, showcasing his integral role in the team and solidifying his status as one of the key players in the squad.

Matt O’Riley did not have a prior connection to Celtic before joining, but he was quick to understand and embrace what the club and city represent. The midfielder is full of admiration for the fans who have warmly embraced him, making him realise the essence of being part of such a historic club.

The Dane talked about the work Celtic does off the field, which makes the club so special.

“I can’t express how much I enjoy playing my football here, genuinely. It’s really nice to feel part of a family in football, and I think that’s quite rare.

Just in terms of everything we do both on and off the pitch, in terms of community work with charities etc., I think it’s very unique and to be a part of that is really special.

“I mentioned the fans and how much they rate you and like you, but the club itself has really had an effect on me. From someone who came to Celtic without much of a real connection to the club, I seem to understand very quickly what it’s all about and what it means.

“From the first day, I realised the intensity of what comes about in Glasgow. My first day of signing, I was looking at an apartment, and six builders sprinted towards me before I even signed a contract, which kind of just shows the magnitude of the club.

“And, like you said, in terms of the community side of things and the real togetherness about the whole city, it’s very, very unique and to be part of that, like I said before, is really cool.”

Matt O’Riley’s new contract is massive news for Celtic, coming after the club turned down a £10 million bid for him during the summer.
