Celtic stormed to a dominative 5-0 win over Buckie Thistle upon their return to action on Sunday. It was a hugely positive performance from The Bhoys who looked sharp as a tac.
Paulo Bernardo opened the scoring early doors before Odin Holm made it two just after the half-hour mark. What both of these goals had in common was that they were assisted by Matt O’Riley.
The Denmark internationalist was given the Man of the Match award for his contributions to the match as he picked up in the second half of the season from where he left off in the first.
Despite recent speculation over his future, O’Riley was top-class against Buckie and showed exactly why he is one of the best players in Scotland at the minute.
After the match, Celtic’s current top scorer for 2023/24 spoke to quadruple-treble-winning former Hoops boss Neil Lennon and Marvin Bartley live on Viaplay. Unprompted, O’Riley criticised the state of the Parkhead pitch: “I’ll be honest our pitch probably isn’t the best right now as well”, he said.
“I’m not making excuses but when you’re trying to break a low block down it does make it harder and that’s why our mentality has to be top every game.”
