Brøndby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden has reacted to speculation surrounding a potential record-breaking transfer to Celtic with a goal for the Danish side yesterday.
With Brøndby facing Dallas in a mid-season friendly, Kvistgaarden’s opener ultimately proved to be the difference, amid rumours that Celtic are in negotiations with Brøndby for the Danish striker, with his representatives involved.

Despite the speculation, Kvistgaarden showed why Celtic are desperate to make him their replacement for Kyogo.

However, Brøndby are reportedly holding firm, demanding not only a club-record fee of around £14 million but also a Celtic club-record fee, surpassing the £11 million they received for Arne Engels from Augsburg in the summer.
Celtic are in urgent need of a striker before the end of the window, with Adam Idah starting on Wednesday against Aston Villa and impressing. However, in the second half, Brendan Rodgers gave his first-team debut to Daniel Cummings, who has been a standout for the Celtic B team over the past year. Despite this, the Irishman will want a proven striker in before Monday’s deadline to fill the gap left by Kyogo’s £10 million departure to Rennes on Monday.
Brighton striker Evan Ferguson has also been linked with a move to Celtic this month. However, that now looks unlikely, with a host of Premier League and European sides showing interest in a loan move until the end of the season. The Hoops face stiff competition for the Irishman.
With so much media attention surrounding Kvistgaarden, it’s reassuring to see that transfer speculation has had no effect on his performances. If he joins the Hoops before the transfer window closes, he will bring the goal threat Celtic desperately need in Kyogo’s absence for the second half of the season.
