Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has praised Ange Postecoglou for sticking to his beliefs, which has seen his side go on to pick up great success so far this campaign.
The former Socceroos boss had a difficult start to life in Glasgow. But, they have since gone on a fine run of form, which has led to his side winning the Premier Sports cup and currently sitting top of the Premiership by three points.
As quoted by RTE, O’Neill spoke about how he has gained much respect for Postecoglou by sticking to his principles in the way his side plays and was full of praise for the 56-year old for the job he has done during the Hoops rebuild.
“Very good indeed, excellent. From a stodgy start, domestically, it’s been really good.
“Looking in from a distance, it seemed a big rebuild was required. It was important that some of the good players stayed on, like Callum McGregor, and some of the players he has brought in have done wonderfully well.
“Sticking to your beliefs as a manager is important. That’s where Ange gains a great deal of respect for me because he stuck with it and believed in it.
“At the start, when results weren’t really there, you start to think maybe he needs to go with a different emphasis or a change of direction, but, no, he stuck to his beliefs, and it’s bearing fruit domestically.
“It can be very difficult to do that when results are not going so well, so well done to Ange.”
Much was made about Postecoglou and not changing his game plan at the beginning of his tenure as Celtic boss. So, it is good to hear that O’Neill recognises and respects how good a job Ange has done at this early stage.
With more time, his sides will only get better, and Ange also clearly recognises that, stating that there is more to come from his squad.
That is undoubtedly an exciting thought, given how impressive his Hoops side have been this season and are currently pushing for the Scottish Premiership title.
