Mark Wilson Tips Celtic for Shock Transfer

Former Celtic defender turned manager and pundit Mark Wilson has told Celtic to pursue Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson this summer.

Wilson knows the history behind Lewis and his family when it comes to the Ibrox club but believes that shouldn’t be a deterrent to signing him.

Ferguson has been making good progress at Aberdeen over the last two seasons but he is still rough around the edges. Whether the player himself would want to put up with the aggro of being a Celtic player with his dad and uncle former gets players and supporters is another thing.

Wilson thinks the player’s quality is already shining through and Celtic could do a lot worse than bring Lewis into the fold.

“I know his family is well steeped in Rangers history and the boy himself is a Rangers fan.” Wilson told SunSport.

“Whether or not he would want to go to Celtic, who knows but if you’re talking about furthering your career and a club like Celtic come in for you who could potentially be playing at the top level in the Champions League, then it would take a brave man to turn that down.

“I think his quality is there to see. I think he’s a combative midfielder who can break up play but can also score you goals.

“And with Scott Brown coming to the tail-end of his career in the next couple of seasons then with Lewis Ferguson only being 20 already having the experience of going from a smaller club to a bigger club in Aberdeen and having the experience of playing under the pressures that come with a club like Aberdeen, I think he could quite easily take the step up again and I don’t think he’d be a bad signing to fit into that Celtic midfield.”

Aberdeen have not been shy about demanding top dollar for their players over the past three or four years and Lewis would come with a price Celtic might not be comfortable with.

Neil Lennon wouldn’t let the fact Lewis is a Gers supporter get in the way of signing him, but it seems an unlikely transfer to say the least.
