Man United Legend Claims He Could’ve Signed For Celtic

Celtic have had a number of near misses with several notable players over the years and it appears another one can now be added to that list in Manchester United legend Lee Sharpe.

The winger, who made 230 appearances for the Red Devils between 1988 and 1996, has revealed how he would’ve wanted to play for Celtic.

The Hoops were interested in a potential move, Sharpe has told The Sun:

“Yeah, I think there was a little bit of interest at one point.

“I would have loved to have played for Celtic, to be fair. My home club Aston Villa as well. But it never happened.”

It would’ve been great to see such a player as Sharpe adorn the famous green and white hoops but it wasn’t to be.

After United, the now 51 year old went on to play for numerous teams such as Leeds, Bradford, Exeter City and even Grindavik in Iceland.

He retired in 2004 with Garforth Town following a respectable career.

As well as saying he wanted to sign for Celtic, Sharpe said he preferred the Hoops to their city rivals:

“I just liked Celtic, liked the kit. I remember seeing them as a kid. You’re either one or the other. It was probably about the kit.”

As alluded to, Sharpe is yet another name to add to the ever growing list of well known and high ability players that could’ve played for the Hoops.
