Patrick Roberts has been linked with a number of clubs over the past couple of seasons. With his contract running down it seemed a foregone conclusion that this summer would see the English wingers make a permanent move away from the Etihad.
But Man City have surprised a lot of people with their announcement today.

If you read the comments on the official clubs Twitter you’ll see Man City fans are as surprised as anyone, with some of them not too happy. It now means anyone looking to buy Roberts will be forced to pay top dollar. It is a clever piece of business from the club but it’s hard to see the player getting any game time at City with so much talent at their disposal.
Roberts spent much of last season injured at Girona and this season will be crucial to his development. His first loan spell at Celtic forced Celtic fans to fall over themselves with the skilful displays Paddy put in wearing the Hoops but it looks like he is well priced out of Celtic’s market now with today’s contract extension.
He has tonight joined Norwich City on a season long loan.
