Major Roy Keane Worry Highlighted

Martin O’Neill again reiterated his feeling that Roy Keane would be a good fit for Celtic but this time, going into a bit more detail, the former Hoops boss did raise a red flag.

A concern for many Celtic supporters, above the fact Roy has been out of the managerial game for ten years is the Irishman’s temperament.

O’Neill brings up the point Roy ‘has an opinion’ — meaning he is an old school manager who won’t miss the mark when he’s got something to tell an underperforming player.

This season, we’ve lived that with Neil Lennon who not only gave his players a roasting inside the dressing room, but also did it in front of the cameras. It just didn’t work.

Speaking about a Roy Keane appointment O’Neill told Go Radio: ‘Is Roy Keane managerial material? Absolutely.

‘I have worked with him and know him on an assistant basis. He has got an opinion, he knows the game inside out and is a strong, strong character.

‘The argument would be then “does the modern player feel that he can be comfortable in those surroundings?”. That is a decision for other people to make.

‘But absolutely [he can adapt] I think sometimes there is a feeling here that anybody of a certain age or certain vintage has the word dinosaur attached to them.

‘Roy has his own methods, it is there when he does his punditry work you can see that is the case. And I think strong characters at a football club would like that sort of management.’

The majority of Celtic fans want to see a fresh face in with new ideas and a path forward for the next 3-5 years. Roy Keane is another Neil Lennon who is a game by game, season by season sort of manager. It’s not what Celtic need and a lot of fans recognise that.

The fact he’s in the running speaks volumes for Dermot Desmond’s awareness of how the Celtic Support think.
