Major Blow Expected to Celtic’s Summer Plans

We all know after the past 18-months, nothing can be definite when it comes to how we come out of lockdown.

Scotland is staggering their stages and holding back opening everything while the vaccination process takes place. However, the guideline out of lockdown looks set to be thrown out the window in the coming days and weeks plunging us into more uncertainty.

The plan was to have the WHOLE of Scotland at Level 0 before the end of the summer but now David Leitch is warning this could be delayed nearly three months while vaccinations continue. The concern of the new delta variant is driving concern.

The Delta variant has changed the game in one crucial way.

“Everything still works – distancing, ventilation, handwashing all still works – but what’s new about the Delta variant, and this is horrid, and we’ve learned it increasingly over the last few weeks, is the second dose is required for decent protection.” Leitch told The Scottish Sun.

“You get about 30% protection from one dose, you get 80 to 85% from two.

“So therefore, if you’re thinking of this as a timeline, we’ve lost about eight to 10 weeks on that journey.

“We vaccinated about half the country’s adults twice, now we need to get that up.”

What does that mean for Celtic and Celtic supporters?

The plan to be at level 0 by the end of the summer meant Celtic fans and clubs all across Scotland could welcome a certain number of fans back to the stadium after playing the whole of last season behind closed doors.

Celtic have been working behind the scenes to iron out the details and how to ballot season ticket holders to allow them into the ground..

However, if Glasgow and Scotland go back the way or even stay at their current level, there will likely be no fans inside stadiums for the beginning of the SPFL season.

Hampden is allowed limited numbers for the Euros but after the international competition is over with – tough decisions might be heading our way.

The health of people is paramount to any decision – while frustrating we have to wait and see how this plays out.
