Celtic centre-half Maik Nawrocki has begun to come back into the fray over the past few games. The Polish defender, who was signed from Legia Warszawa last summer, was more or less sent to exile but is now getting consistent minutes.
Cameron Carter-Vickers’ absence, coupled with Stephen Welsh pulling up in the Glasgow derby, allowed Nawrocki to gain a vital opportunity in a colossal match. He was thrown into the game against Rangers at New Year having not played since August, but he took it in his stride.

Since then, the 22-year-old has not looked back. Going into the weekend’s match against Ross County, Nawrocki seems likely to retain his place in the team.
Throughout his time in Glasgow to date, though, things have not been as plain sailing. A hamstring injury initially plagued him with Liam Scales’ exceptional form keeping Nawrocki and fellow new signing Gustaf Laegrbielke out of the team.
The Poland internationalist, however, remained patient because he knew he would get his opportunity: “I knew myself that it would only be a matter of time before I was back playing”, he said (The Celtic Way). “I was always confident that in the end, it would go well for me.”
While on the sidelines, it would have been easy for Nawrocki to have overthought his initial decision to come to Celtic, although he claimed this is something he had never done: “I think it’s normal to think about that (regretting signing for Celtic) when you are injured”, he said.
“In the end, every time I spoke with someone about it, I never doubted my decision to come here. I feel I fit in here perfectly.”
