Daizen Maeda has ended the speculation over his dramatic change in hairstyle — and he’s done it in the most Daizen way possible.
The Japanese star had Celtic fans talking on Friday after club training photos revealed he’d ditched his now-iconic blonde hair for a much shorter cut, just ahead of Saturday’s massive clash with Kilmarnock. The timing led to plenty of theories, from superstition to serious business-mode for the title run-in.
But Maeda took to social media to clear things up, posting on X: “I bleached my hair too much and it’s gone. I’m going to take good care of it and let it grow from here on out.” — topping it off with a bowing emoji that had fans chuckling.
It’s a brilliantly honest explanation from a player who’s never been one to take himself too seriously off the park — even if he’s all business on it. The post has been doing the rounds among Celtic supporters, many of whom praised his down-to-earth attitude and sense of humour.
Maeda’s peroxide look had become something of a trademark this season as he continued to be one of Brendan Rodgers’ most important players.
Now sporting a cropped look more in line with Scott Brown than a J-League fashion shoot, Maeda’s admitted the bleach finally got the better of him — but fans won’t mind a bit if he keeps delivering the goods on the pitch.
He may have lost the blonde, but he’s still got the engine — and that’s what matters most as Celtic close in on more silverware.
