Maeda and Nawrocki; Brendan Rodgers Provides Injury Update Ahead Of Hearts Clash

Celtic are set to travel through to Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon to take on Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. Ahead of the match, Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on some injuries.

There were doubts over availability regarding Daizen Maeda, although Rodgers cleared those up. He said: “Daizen’s okay. He had a slight knock after the Kilmarnock game and with it being friendlies (Japan’s games) the communication between our medical team and their medical team meant he didn’t have to travel. He has been training now over a week so he’s absolutely fine.”

Under Rodgers so far, Maeda has been greatly productive. His presence will only be of benefit to the Hoops on Sunday.

Along with the 26-year-old, Rodgers also spoke about Maik Nawrocki. He said: “Maik is back in now. This is him ten days or so into his training. He’s getting sharper everyday and finding his football fitness so that’s really good news for us.”

It will be hard for Nawrocki to displace Liam Scales or Cameron Carter-Vickers in the champions’ team. That will be his eventual aim, but he may not get there this weekend.

When asked if Nawrocki is in for Hearts, Rodgers said: ‘We’ll have a look at that. We’ve still to finalise what the squad will be but the most important thing is he’s back fit and available.”

At the beginning of the season, Nawrocki impressed. Having him back and ready will only be positive for the Celts going into an arduous run of games.
