The result extended Celtic’s lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to a commanding 15 points ahead of Saturday’s trip to Ross County on Saturday.

Speaking to the press on Friday, McCowan admitted to watching the match between his old side and Rangers, though he insisted his focus remains firmly on Celtic’s own tasks.

When asked if he tuned in to see his old club take points off Celtic’s city rivals, McCowan replied: [Celtic TV]

“I watched it, aye.”

Pressed on his thoughts about the game, the former Dundee player responded, grinning:

“I mean, I don’t really focus on that – I was just watching it as a neutral, you could say!

“My old gaffer Tony Doc, he’s a great guy and you just want kind of success for him. He was good to me, and you just kind of hope that his team can push on and get positive results.”

Dundee’s draw at Dens Park adds further daylight between Celtic and Rangers at the top of the table. McCowan’s former boss, Tony Docherty, has earned plaudits for his work with Dundee, a sentiment echoed by the Celtic midfielder.

The gap is now 15 points, and Celtic have the chance to stretch that to 18 on Saturday. Rangers don’t play St Johnstone until Sunday.

Now, McCowan will aim to help his current side consolidate their Premiership dominance with a strong performance in Dingwall.

After starting the last two games for Celtic, he’ll be looking to keep his place in the team.
