‘Luckily It Came Through’ – Dane Murray Reflects on Goal and New Celtic Contract

Dane Murray enjoyed a landmark night for Celtic after making headlines both on and off the pitch.

The 22-year-old signed a new contract with the club on Friday before stepping onto the park and grabbing his first senior goal in the win over Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup.

Handed a starting spot in the back line, the centre-back helped shut out the League One side before heading home at the other end to round off a strong display. It was the kind of performance he’ll be hoping catches the manager’s eye as he looks to push into the first-team squad more regularly this season.

The goal came just hours after Celtic announced the new deal that keeps the academy graduate at the club until 2028. It’s been a long road for Murray, who has had his share of injury trouble, but the club’s faith in him remains clear.

Now fully fit, the former Scotland youth defender is determined to make the most of his chance. With his future tied down and confidence high, he’s aiming to play a bigger part in Brendan Rodgers’ plans in the months ahead.

He said: (TCW), “I don’t think you can get much better than that.

“It’s been a crazy 24 hours, but no, I’m really happy.

“It (the contract) came about quite quickly.

“It’s really been the last week or so, so everything’s moving fast. Everything was really easy with the club. So yeah, happy to get it done.

“I was thinking, imagine how good this day could be if I go and score, so luckily it came through.”

It was a big night for Murray and one that could be a turning point. His header might not have come in front of a full Celtic Park, but it showed he’s serious about making an impact. At 22, he still has time on his side, but he’ll know chances need to be taken when they come.

He looked calm in defence and tidy on the ball, playing like someone who was comfortable in the moment. It’s only one match, but it was a solid showing from a young player eager to prove he belongs at the top level.

Now tied down until 2028, Murray has the time and support to keep building. What he does in the weeks and months ahead will matter as he tries to earn more minutes and stay in the mix.

Based on Friday’s performance, he’s shown he’s more than ready to step up.
