Lubo Moravcik Thinks Celtic Can Make an “Impression” in Europe This Year

Former Celtic winger Lubomir Moravcik thinks the Hoops can make a mark in Europe this year after seeing them put Slovan Bratislava to the sword in a formidable 5-1 victory on Wednesday evening.

The Bhoys couldn’t have started their Champions League campaign any better as they made history on matchday one.

Liam Scales opened the scoring early doors before Kyogo Furuhashi, Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah got in on the act.

Brendan Rodgers has his team playing some outstanding, free-flowing stuff at the beginning of the new campaign.

There is an overwhelming sense of positivity surrounding Celtic at the minute, which was in no way synonymous with last term.

The new Champions League format could finally allow the Hoops to make a mark on the European stage.

For too long, the Hoops have faltered at continental level, but now, that could be set to change.

Lubo believes Celtic’s recent experiences in Europe, combined with their current form and the new league phase, can allow them to progress.

“Celtic are so strong and play very high quality football,” he said (Glasgow Times).

“I think if you look at Celtic, they have taken a lot of time to get to this stage. They gained experience in the competition and they have taken time to to build a team and get to this level.

“I think they are 100 per cent ready to make an impression in this year’s Champions League.

“I saw people were complaining about the quality of the Slovakian League – well, Celtic have really no competition in the Scottish League either now.

“Celtic looked like they had players of a completely different level to Slovan.”

Seeing how Celtic cope in upcoming Champions League matches against Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta should be intriguing.

Their next few opponents are undoubtedly a step up in level, but given the form they are currently in, the Hoops have the right to go into each match with confidence.
