‘Look Forward, Not Back’ – Brendan Rodgers Sent Warning Over Kyogo Return

Celtic are becoming known for welcoming back former stars, and talk of Kyogo returning has only added to that. The Japanese striker is the latest name linked with a comeback after a tough spell in France.

The Japanese striker left the Hoops in January for a £10m move to Ligue 1 side Rennes, but his time there has been far from the dream step up many predicted. With no goals to his name and just a handful of appearances, Kyogo has struggled to make an impact under Habib Beye who, it seems, isn’t convinced.

His situation draws comparisons with recent Hoops comebacks, like Jota’s emotional return just six months ago, and Kieran Tierney now reportedly set to follow suit next month. The mood among supporters is leaning slightly towards another Kyogo reunion.

However, Brendan Rodgers may have to balance sentiment with good judgement, as former Scotland and Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison warned, pointing to his own return to West Ham as a lesson.

He said: (Gambling Zone), “I’ve not seen a load of him (in France), to be honest. I saw him when he played up in Scotland. I think he’s a player that fits. He’s a very good player.

”But it’s not going his way right now, obviously, and there’s a chance Celtic benefit from looking forward rather than to the past.”

There’s no doubt Kyogo is still seen as a modern-day hero at Celtic. His goals and lively style made him a favourite with fans and teammates during his time in Glasgow, and his tough spell in France has only made supporters miss him more.

Bournemouth and Brentford have both been linked with Kyogo in recent weeks. Both clubs are said to be monitoring his situation closely, aware that a proven goalscorer like Kyogo could offer real value, especially if he’s available at a knockdown price.

That interest makes a return to Celtic appear less likely. Any move back to the Hoops would likely require the striker to accept a significant wage cut, something that wouldn’t be expected if he made the switch to England’s top flight. While the love from Celtic fans is undoubted, the financial side of the deal could prove a major stumbling block.
