Long-Term Celtic Target Set For Summer Exit; Was This the Plan All Along

The Celtic links surrounding Brondby’s Mathias Kvistgaarden and his potential move to Glasgow could be reaching a pivotal moment this summer, as the Danish club’s director of football, Carsten Jensen, has openly acknowledged the possibility of the striker’s departure.

Kvistgaarden is a long-term target for the Hoops and he has been on Celtic’s radar for the past two transfer windows.

Despite the 21-year-old’s focus on competing for the Danish title this season and no direct talks with Celtic, his ambition to play abroad has been clear.

Jensen’s recent comments to the Danish media suggest that Brondby might be preparing for life without their star forward, emphasising the timing of potential sales and the financial boost it could provide for the club.

“I recognise that there is a risk that we will lose Kvistgaarden,” he said, quoted by the Record.

“If that happens, there will also be a lot of money in the coffers, so we have something to work with. We must have a strong squad. It’s about timing things and making the big sales at exactly the right times. We must stick to our sporting ambitions. We want to reach a European group stage.”

Celtic added to their striking ranks in the winter, bringing Adam Idah to the club late on in the transfer window. Notably, there was no option to buy the player.

Many speculated that the Irishman may not have been Celtic first option, with the club linked to numerous strikers before the loan signing was completed.

Could the club have been aware that Kvistgaarden could become available in the summer, and just waiting to seal their target?
