Long Overdue But Celtic Make History with Latest Announcement

CELTIC have made the announcement their women’s football side will be moving to full professional status as of next season.

There have been calls for this to happen for some time with the women’s game becoming more and more high profile. Celtic’s women have been part-time up until now and have struggled to keep up with Glasgow City in the league.

Celtic are currently in the middle of finalising plans for facilities out of Barrowfield which could become home to to the women’s side in the future.

The club are going about finding a full-time manager for the ladies and coaching team along with announcing new sponsorship deals.

There will now be more scope for team to sign some more prominent stars for the Celtic side to help them in their quest to win the league.

Gordon Kaye, Celtic’s Head of Business Development told the Celtic Website: “We are delighted to be leading the way in this area in Scotland and we are sure our move to professional status is one which will be hugely beneficial for the club and our players.

“Our new professional arrangement aims to provide the same opportunities for women wishing to play the game at all levels as we currently do for men – as a club famously open to all, this is hugely important to us.

“Building on recent progress, our objective will always be to aim higher and achieve more success and we believe our new professional status will allow us to do this.

“While we realise reaching the top spot in Scotland may not happen overnight, we always want to be the best in all we do and this is absolutely something we aspire to.

“It is a very exciting time for women’s football and we are delighted to be driving forward with these exciting new plans.”

Celtic will kick off their new league campaign on February 23 at K-Park, East Kilbride. Their opponents for their first game as a professional team will be none other than Glasgow City.

Hopefully, a bumper crowd will support the team on the day. We’ll be covering the action!
