LIVINGSTON’S official Twitter account responded to a Celtic fan who asked why they were genuinely ‘not ashamed’ of playing a negative style of football.
The bhoys took on David Martindale’s side on Wednesday evening and grabbed a deserved 2-1 victory. The game was controlled by Celtic, as you would expect, and Livi tried to set up to be stubborn, as you would also expect.
Despite playing a low block and trying to keep Celtic at bay, the bhoys had a lot of success penetrating the block. The Celtic players then didn’t convert or put themselves in the correct position to take advantage of those attacks.
The game’s first goal came from Liel Abada whipping in a cross, hitting Ayo Obileye and landing in the back of the net.

The second goal was brilliant from Celtic, particularly Anthony Ralston, who cut Livingston open with an outstanding pass for the cross, which Kyogo then finished.
Livingston would get their only goal of the game just after kick-off from Celtic’s second. The bhoys fell asleep, and Nicky Devlin managed to stab the ball home past Joe Hart.
The second half was mostly Celtic, with Livingston doing their best to run down the clock until later in the game. The number of times they made a point of slowly taking set pieces, throw-ins and goal kicks were frustrating.
Livingston’s negative and anti-football tactics are not widely loved, but they have managed to do well playing the way they do.
One Celtic fan blamed the way the West Lothian side plays the game and attributed the negative to football as a reason why the Scottish National team will always struggle.
The Livi Official account hit back, making the point at halftime that they had a 100% conversion rate in front of goal.

Livi would take another two shots in the second half from outside the area but came to nothing.
