Pundit Charlie Nicholas believes Celtic should raid Liverpool this summer as part of their rebuild.
The former Celtic and Arsenal player told the Scottish Daily Express (29/06, p57).
“Caoimhin Kelleher has already played in the Liverpool first team, he is another one [that I would like to see Celtic sign].
“My mate Phil Thompson rates him highly and he’s another who wouldn’t be overly expensive.”
Caoimhin Kelleher is Liverpool’s 22y/o goalkeeper who has already made some first team appearances.
However, if Celtic were to make a move for the shot stopper, it would likely have to be a loan deal because Kelleher has not long signed a new deal keeping him at Anfield until 2026.
Celtic need a new goalkeeper, if Ange doesn’t believe we need a better option in between the sticks it would be a major red flag.
The loan market is there to be utilised but we have to make sure whoever comes in is up to the task.
There’s an outside chance Barkas will be given another shot next season, if the Greek player doesn’t significantly up his game – it would spell trouble for the manager and the team.
Kelleher could be a good option for one season while Celtic focus on brining other positions in on a full time basis. The rebuild will have to span at least three windows after all.
