Listen: Brendan Rodgers Snaps Back at BBC’s Transfer Question

Brendan Rodgers’ patience with Celtic’s ongoing transfer saga appeared to wear thin on Friday night, as he once again faced repeated questioning after the Hoops’ 4-1 win over Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup.

With the Champions League play-off against Kairat Almaty looming, Rodgers has been consistently pressed on whether reinforcements will arrive in time.

After the match, he initially offered a measured response when speaking to BBC Scotland.

“I’ve just come out of the game here, so we’ll wait and see,” he said. “We’ve named the squad and then we’ll wait and see what happens before the game. If not, that’s the squad we’ll go with.”

But when the line of questioning was pushed further, Rodgers cut back sharply.

“Okay, so let me repeat what I said. Right? I’ve just finished the game. I haven’t spoken to anybody for the game and during the 90 odd minutes of the game, I don’t know anything. I don’t know anything. So, there might be, or there might not be. So, but we have the team that we have.”

The frustration was clear from the Celtic boss, who has faced the same questions repeatedly over the last fortnight with little change in his answers.

Celtic fans are desperate to see some movement, but there hasn’t even been a reliable transfer link that has got fans excited.

While the transfer market remains active, Rodgers continues to stress that his focus is on the players already at his disposal.

There will be players coming in – there simply has to be – but nothing seems imminent at the moment.

With the trip to Kazakhstan now days away, the manager will hope attention shifts back to the football as his side look to reach the Champions League group stage once again.
