Celtic Park has received a special boost ahead of tonight’s must-win Champions League clash against Young Boys, with the historic European Cup in attendance for the game.
Celtic, who won the same trophy on the 25th May 1967 against Inter Milan with goals from Tommy Gemmell and Stevie Chalmers, were the first British side to win the illustrious trophy.
It’s an achievement that will forever go down in Celtic history and one that tonight’s team will be reminded of, with the trophy placed in front of the pitch at the time of writing.

The Hoops haven’t been at their scintillating best in recent weeks; however, coming up against Young Boys, the bottom-placed team in the Champions League table, they have a chance to seal a place in the Champions League playoff knockout rounds next month with a win against the Swiss champions.

A tough fixture schedule with 10 games in a month, including tonight’s game, has meant Celtic haven’t been afforded the chance to rest and recharge their batteries like they so often did in recent years. With the Scottish winter break cancelled this season due to added Champions League games in January, the league had to account for two European games for Celtic this month.
However, tonight’s game takes precedence over any match in the last month and can be argued to be the Hoops’ biggest game in 12 years in Europe, with the chance to reach the newly created Champions League playoff knockouts next month.
