Liel Abada Snub

Former Celtic winger Karamoko Dembele has been shortlisted for the Tuttosport Golden Boy award despite having failed to break into Ange Postecoglou’s side at Celtic.

The winger suffered a horrific injury during pre-season last year and following his return from injury, the 19-year old only managed to make just two appearances under Postecoglou.

He has now made the switch to France to join Ligue 1 side Brest where he will hope to be given more game time.

With Dembele included on the list, many Celtic fans will be wondering whether the journalists who selected the final names had watched the Hoops at all last season.

The award is for the player considered to be the best rising talent playing in Europe during the calendar year.

Previous winners have included the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Pedri.

The player who impressed the most as a youngster at Celtic last season was Liel Abada who in-turn won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.

Abada made 54 appearances for Celtic during the last campaign and contributed greatly to Celtic’s success with the winger scoring 15 goals along with 11 assists in Ange Postecoglou’s maiden season.

If anyone from Celtic should have been nominated for the award it should have been him.

This is just one example of a player missing from the list meaning that it likely to be flawed with other gems in Europe being missed out and ignored.

I mentioned on our most recent CeltsAreHere podcast that it will be interesting to compare both Abada and Dembele’s careers in the next 3-5 years. The Israeli seems more equipped to build on what he’s doing at Celtic.
