Liel Abada Rumours Rubbished By Former Scotland International

Former Scotland international Alan Hutton has dismissed rumours about Liel Abada heading to the Premier League in the summer.

Last week, it was revealed that Southampton were the main club interested in the 21-year-old and would be willing to make an approach for the Celtic winger in the summer.

The Saints currently sit bottom of the Premier League table having only managed to pick up 15 points from their 21 matches so far this season.

Manager Nathan Jones was criticised at the weekend after bizarre comments following the teams loss to Brentford to continue to their dismal form of one win in the past seven games.

It is unlikely that Abada would be willing to swap Champions League football for the English Championship as he is working under a top class coach that has shown a lot of belief in him and helped his development.

Abada has continued his impressive form this season having contributed 10 goals and five assists in 34 appearances for the Hoops.

That adds to the terrific 15 goals and and 11 assists as he closes in on making his 100th appearance for the club which is likely to happen during this campaign.

He is contracted at the club until 2026 and there has been talk of Celtic exploring a contract renewal.

Hutton dismissed any notion that he would be interested in making the switch to Southampton.

“If you look at Southampton and the situation they are in, there is a massive possibility of them being a Championship football club next year,” said Hutton speaking to [Football Insider].

“Is that something you want to be a part of? I know they are probably building for the future but everything that is going on with their manager at this moment in time, it is a little bit uncertain.

“Why would you leave somewhere that you are comfortable, happy, winning football matches, going for trophies to go to somewhere there is going to have to be a massive turnaround?

“Personally, it is not something that I would be motivated with so I am pretty sure he will probably be thinking along the same lines.“

Abada has been one of the standout players under Ange Postecoglou and will only continue to get better under his watch.
