Shaw, who joined the Hoops during the summer of 2021, was part of a transitional phase at the club. Despite only making two senior appearances in green and white, the midfielder has no regrets about his time at Parkhead.

Shaw arrived from Sheffield Wednesday when Celtic were going through a period of rebuilding under Ange Postecoglou.

Although his Celtic career didn’t reach the heights many had hoped for, Shaw insists he gained valuable experience that he’ll carry throughout his career.

Reflecting on his time in Glasgow, he said [Football Scotland]: “I got the phone call from my agent that Celtic were interested. It was a no brainer. [It was] a great experience. The standard of training has improved me.”

During his two years on Celtic’s books, Shaw had limited first-team opportunities, spending the majority of his time out on loan. Spells at Motherwell and Wigan Athletic saw him gather much-needed match experience, but he was never able to establish himself as a regular in Celtic’s first team.

Shaw’s most memorable moment came when he made his debut in a Europa League dead rubber against Real Betis in December 2021. Celtic won 3-2.

The Englishman recalls his bow fondly. “It was a pinch-me moment,” he said.

“When I started to play I was like, I’m here now, let’s do it. I thought I did well, and we won the game. It’s an experience I’ll hold for the rest of my life.”

Now 23, Shaw believes his time at Celtic helped shape his game, even though it didn’t go as planned in terms of minutes on the pitch. “I’ve learned a lot, obviously, training with those sorts of players – I’ve picked a lot of stuff up from them to put into my game,” he said.

While his time in Glasgow may have been short-lived, Shaw is adamant that joining Celtic was the right decision at the time.

He said: “I don’t think you can live with regrets. It was the right move for me at that time going to Celtic, and it was honestly a privilege to be part of it all.”

With a fresh start at Fleetwood Town, Shaw will be looking to rediscover the form that earned him his move to Celtic in the first place. Although his Hoops journey didn’t unfold as expected, he leaves the club with positive memories and a sense of gratitude for the experience.
