The recent success story of Celtic defender Liam Scales has been quite something. The Irishman has managed to nail down a place at the heart of the Hoops’ defence after coming back from a loan spell at Aberdeen.
Despite his form, the club are currently in a position few are satisfied with. Results and performances alike have dropped off in recent weeks, but Scales says there are no dressing room disagreements: “Everyone in the dressing room is friends”, he said (Celtic FC on YouTube). “There are no cliques or enemies. We’re all friends, but it’s competition at the same time. We push each other, and subconsciously you know you’re being pushed.”

Across all areas of the park, Brendan Rodgers has several options to pick from. Centre-back is no different and there, Scales is keeping big money, international players such as Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki out of the team.
This is a testament to the levels and mentality of the 25-year-old. He has been a standout this campaign and as long as he keeps up his current form, his place at the heart of the defence is his to keep.
Few would have predicted Scales’ rise when he returned from Pittodrie, but he has become a key member of the Parkhead dressing room, one in which cliques don’t exist.
