Liam Scales Celtic Contract Clause

Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin has admitted that the club are keen on extending the loan deal of defender Liam Scales even further.

Celtic have a recall option on Scales next month which the Dons boss is hoping doesn’t happen as the 24-year-old has been integral to his side.

He was a big miss for the Reds at the weekend in their 1-0 defeat to the Scottish champions but will likely return to action in their next Premiership match against Rangers at Pittodrie.

The former Shamrock Rovers defender made the switch to Scottish football last season and was used as a bit part player under Ange Postecoglou before making the loan move to the Granite City.

Scales has made 19 appearances so far for the Dons as Goodwin will be hoping that Ange Postecoglou has plenty of options at the back without having to recall the Irishman.

In the transfer market, the league leaders have already added the signing of Yuki Kobayashi as well as Alistair Johnston meaning that there should be plenty of cover at the back.

“The chairman (Dave Cormack) was due to speak to Celtic’s board to get a feel for what their thoughts are. I know that Steven Gunn (Director of Football) has been on to Celtic already,” said Jim Goodwin as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I think we will get confirmation on that one pretty soon. Obviously Celtic have signed another defender who will be coming into their fold in January.

“The boy (Moritz) Jenz was on the bench for them on Saturday and Stafelt is back now. Realistically I’m not sure they will be needing Liam back but we will have to wait to get that confirmed.”

The only way that Scales is going to develop further is by getting more minutes on the park which he is getting at Pittodrie meaning that keeping him there makes sense for all parties involved.
